The UAE has unveiled plans for an AED 6 billion Fourth Federal Corridor, a 68km motorway featuring 10 junctions, six to eight lanes and four flyovers, designed to reduce congestion and improve connectivity across the emirates.
The project, first announced in November, forms part of a broader AED 170 billion five-year transport investment plan. Existing motorways are also earmarked for significant expansion: Emirates Road will be widened to 10 lanes, increasing capacity by 65% and cutting travel times by 45%, while Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road is to be expanded to 10 lanes and Al Ittihad Road extended by six lanes, boosting capacity by 60%.
The infrastructure drive is intended to keep pace with population growth and rising vehicle numbers, with additional high-capacity bus services on 10 routes also proposed to ease traffic between Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman.
