Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has invested more than AED 10 billion in electricity transmission infrastructure as it scales capacity to meet rising power demand across the emirate.
In H1 2026, the utility commissioned eight 132kV transmission substations with a combined conversion capacity of 1,200 MVA, supported by 20 km of transmission cables valued at AED 970 million. A 400/132kV substation was also commissioned at Saih Al Dahal within the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park.
DEWA is currently constructing 65 new 132kV substations and one 400kV substation, with plans over the next three years to tender more than 30 additional 132kV substations, extend 340 km of underground cables, and build two further 400kV substations. The utility also awarded 21 contracts for new substations across Dubai districts in H1, along with contracts for 64 km of 132kV cables worth approximately AED 3 billion. By end of June, DEWA operated 402 transmission substations in total.
