Abu Dhabi-based Masdar has announced its first project in Malaysia with the signing of a power purchase agreement to develop a 200-megawatt floating solar photovoltaic plant at the Chereh Dam in Pahang State.
Once operational, the Chereh Dam facility is expected to become Southeast Asia’s largest floating solar project. Spanning approximately 950 acres, the plant will have a generation capacity of more than 300 megawatts peak, sufficient to power the equivalent of over 100,000 homes.
It marks the inaugural project under the 10-gigawatt renewable energy roadmap agreed between Masdar and Malaysian authorities in 2023.
