Global IT spending is projected to reach a record $5.61tr in 2025, reflecting a nearly 10% increase from $5.11tr in 2024, according to new research from Gartner based on analysis of sales data from more than 1,000 IT vendors worldwide. This growth is driven by investments in AI as well as hardware upgrades by enterprises and hyperscalers.
Spending on AI-optimised servers alone is expected to reach $202bn in 2025, surpassing traditional server spending by a considerable margin. IT services and hyperscalers (large data centres that provide cloud computing, storage, and networking such as AWS, Google Cloud, and Azure) will account for more than 70% of the projected spending.
By 2028, hyperscalers are anticipated to operate $1tr worth of AI-optimised servers, marking a shift from traditional infrastructure-as-a-service models to AI-driven business frameworks.
