Are Microsoft and Apple finally friends?

Microsoft and Apple have made a significant step forward in their collaboration, even if it’s through a third party.

Apple’s integration of OpenAI’s ChatGPT into its operating systems earlier this year has sparked optimism at Microsoft. CEO Satya Nadella views the partnership as a significant victory for Microsoft which is both an investor (49% ownership) and commercial partner of OpenAI.

While Microsoft briefly powered Apple’s Siri and Spotlight search function, Apple ultimately chose Google’s search engine, citing superior results. Nadella pointed out that Apple’s choice of search engine provider has significant market influence, adding that whoever Apple selects essentially becomes the ‘king-maker’ in the search industry.

Now with OpenAI integrated into Apple’s ecosystem, Nadella sees this new, unexpected partnership as a promising opportunity for Microsoft in the competitive tech landscape.
