UAE insurance sector assets reach AED 164.9bn in 2025 as profits jump 54%

The UAE insurance industry closed 2025 with total assets of AED 164.9 billion, a 6.1% rise from AED 155.5 billion a year earlier, as gross written premiums surged 14.9% to AED 74.8 billion and sector profits climbed 54% to AED 4 billion from AED 2.6 billion in 2024, according to the Central Bank of the UAE's annual statistical report on insurance activity.

Total claims paid grew at a slower rate of 11% to AED 46.2 billion, allowing insurers to widen margins, while the premium retention ratio edged up to 56% from 54.9%. The industry's invested asset base stood at AED 96.4 billion – equivalent to 58.4% of total sector assets – and available capital was maintained at 455% of the regulatory minimum.

Active policies reached 17.3 million, with health insurance policy numbers rising 26.1% following the rollout of mandatory basic health coverage, which materially expanded the addressable market. Insurance density reached approximately AED 6,500 per capita, with 58 licensed insurers operating across the country.
