Saudi Arabia boosts Red Sea shipping capacity with new services

Saudi Arabia has introduced five new maritime shipping services to strengthen trade routes via the Red Sea, ensuring supply-chain continuity amid regional disruptions affecting the Strait of Hormuz.

The expansion, led by Saudi Ports Authority, was implemented in collaboration with major global shipping lines including MSC, CMA CGM, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd.

The new services will connect Saudi ports to regional and international markets, with a combined capacity of 63,594 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). The move is aimed at maintaining the flow of goods and enhancing logistical resilience during a period of heightened geopolitical tension.

Industry data also suggests Saudi oil exports via the Red Sea have increased significantly, reflecting a strategic shift in shipping routes to mitigate risks in the Gulf.
