Major events key to Mid-East tourism growth

Large-scale events are emerging as a key driver of international tourism and wider economic expansion in the Middle East.

The Gulf’s events and exhibition market is projected to reach $827m by 2029, with the  success of mega-events like Expo 2020 Dubai and the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 fuelling momentum. Saudi Arabia will host the 2034 World Cup.

In addition to tourism, big-ticket events are credited with boosting hotel occupancy, stimulating infrastructure investment and elevating brand positioning for host destinations. As governments across the GCC pursue diversification strategies, the sector is expected to play a central role in future growth.
