Ooredoo Group has signed a landmark agreement with Alcatel Submarine Networks to construct a high-capacity submarine cable system that will connect seven Gulf nations – Qatar, Oman, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq.
The Fibre in Gulf project aims to strengthen regional connectivity by establishing a faster, more secure route linking the region to Europe. The network will provide enhanced connectivity for hyperscalers, businesses, governments, AI providers, data centres, and telecom operators.
The initiative is expected to significantly improve network reliability, security, and speed across the region. With the launch of the FIG cable, Ooredoo is set to play a key role in advancing the region’s digital economy in the future.
