Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said that AI will create many new job opportunities, dismissing concerns that the new technology will have the opposite effect.
During a conversation with Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, the UAE’s Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, Pichai noted that the UAE had invested in the necessary AI infrastructure and urged other governments to do the same. He also commented that the UAE was ‘pretty far-sighted’ in establishing the ministerial position of AI minister in 2017.
Pichai also said jobs were constantly evolving and that 60% of the new jobs created since 1940 didn't exist before – and that is how he envisioned the future of job creation, adding that no technology will impact the UAE’s economy as much as AI.
