Dubai RTA expands AV collaboration

Uber and WeRide have joined forces with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to accelerate the adoption of autonomous vehicles (AVs) in the city. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy, which aims to make 25% of all journeys autonomous by 2030.

Under the agreement, Uber and RTA will launch pilot programs, integrating Uber’s platform to connect riders with self-driving vehicles. The initiative will explore data insights, safety measures, and regulatory frameworks to ensure a smooth transition to autonomous transport. WeRide will serve as the first technology partner, providing expertise in AV development.

Dubai has been actively testing self-driving technologies since 2016, with trials expanding across multiple transport sectors. This latest partnership highlights RTA’s commitment to working with global technology leaders to transform urban mobility.
