Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has awarded an AED 2 billion contract for the Latifa bint Hamdan Corridor Development Project, a 12km east-west route due for completion by the end of 2028.
The corridor will link six major arteries: Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Meydan Street, Al Khail Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road and Emirates Road. Works include seven bridges totalling 2,300 metres, eight tunnels spanning 900 metres and the widening of Latifa bint Hamdan Street to four lanes in each direction, lifting capacity to around 16,000 vehicles per hour.
Travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road will fall from 33 minutes to 15, a 54% reduction, while capacity across Dubai's east-west road network rises by 12%. The corridor will serve more than 650,000 residents and visitors, handle over 130,000 daily trips and add 12.5km of cycling tracks linking Al Qudra with Jumeirah.
