Alec Holdings wins USD 1.7bn contract to build Sphere Abu Dhabi

UAE construction and engineering firm Alec Holdings has secured a USD 1.7 billion contract to design, procure and construct Sphere Abu Dhabi on Yas Island, with the venue targeted for completion in 2029. The deal cements the homegrown contractor's role at the centre of Abu Dhabi's most ambitious tourism infrastructure push to date.

Modelled on Sphere Las Vegas – which opened in 2023 and is famed for its 16K-resolution wraparound screen – the Abu Dhabi iteration will hold 20,000 people and sit between SeaWorld Abu Dhabi and Yas Mall. It will host immersive Sphere Experiences, concert residencies, and major brand events spanning combat sports, conferences and product launches. DCT Abu Dhabi is developing the venue in partnership with US-based Sphere Entertainment.
