Abu Dhabi launches new defence industrial free zone

Tawazun Council and AD Ports Group will develop Al Selmiyyah Defence Industrial Free Zone to strengthen the UAE’s defence manufacturing base and attract global OEMs. The project aims to expand domestic production, support technology transfer and integrate national SMEs into defence supply chains.

The free zone forms part of the UAE’s broader industrial sovereignty strategy and aligns with Operation 300bn, targeting long-term manufacturing and high-tech growth.

Tawazun has supported the launch of 90+ companies and investment vehicles across 11 sectors, while the Tawazun Industrial Park currently hosts 45 defence and advanced manufacturing firms.

EDGE Group systems reportedly intercepted over 85% of Iranian drones launched at the UAE during recent regional tensions.
