Dubai awards AED 2.5bn in new stormwater drainage contracts

Dubai has awarded AED 2.5 billion (USD 680 million) in contracts to expand and strengthen its stormwater drainage network, supporting long-term urban resilience. The projects, announced by Dubai Municipality, will serve 30 key areas spanning 430 million square metres and support a projected population of 3 million by 2040.

The second-phase contracts were awarded to DeTech Contracting and China State Construction Engineering Corporation, alongside specialist consultants. The package includes three execution contracts and two design and study agreements.

The initiative builds on AED 1.4 billion awarded in phase one of a broader AED 30 billion upgrade programme aimed at climate readiness and rapid urban expansion.
